  • Starting 'Clunk' any ideas???

    Hi All,
Got a 3.0 '94 auto, and it's got this annoying fault. When you try to start it you get a clunk, which seems to come from around the gearbox area, but I can't be sure. It doesn't always happen, but more often when it's cold, even if it's just been run and stopped for a second. All I do is keep trying and after between about 2-10 attempts it starts ok. Sometimes I get a short slow turn of the starter, but not often.
Is it the dreaded (gulp) starter motor???

Why dreaded, its normally the starter contacts, cheap and easy fix.

Oh, that's not so bad then.
Does it sound like that's the problem then?

Check the earth cables first. Remove and clean even if they look ok.
