  • Are my front shocks wasted?

For the last few months the front of my kzn130 has been feeling a little ragged.

So this weekend I dropped the bottom bolt off the front factory-fit shocks. With two fingers and one hand I can compress them but they don't return without a little pull.

Having not changed shocks before does this sound like they are wasted?

They should be fairly awkward, (though not impossible), to compress, and then return to length once you let go. So yes, they do sound a bit knacked.

depends if they are gas or oil shocks as to whether they return or not I think

Shockers are supposed to "damp" the springing motion of a spring, if you can compress it with little effort I would say they need changing, I really need to do mine, the front on my truck bounces round like a bouncy thing

Do oil shocks work in a different way then to gas?

            Same theory, but better.

sorry for asking a question on top of your question but i have a 3 inch susp.(and 3 inch body ) lift on my surf but i still have the electric shocks(I purchased like this) with the hard/normal settings and i was wondering if it would be more trail worthy with a manually adjusted gas shock instead of electronic controlled ones?
              thanx

You would be surprised where the factory standard truck can go, so i wouldnt waste your money unless you need better articulation, or a bigger lift

Depending on how the suspension lift was done, the standard shocks may well be topping out too quickly, and thus severely limiting your downward suspension travel. You should fit some extended shocks to give you the extra travel back.

They are the factory-fit gas shocks with the two settings selectable from the cab.

I have seen where this truck can go! ive been places i thought i couldnt go with out even a rear locker! i flexed it out on a cut down tree and the rear right side was about 3.5ft off the ground with all fours touching ! the guy i bought it from said it was impossible to get stuck but the day i bought it I had it burried 3times in a row! lol i need a solid axle swap and air lockers! i just wanted to know if i should change em out? i am very impressed with its performance for having IFS!
