As with anything, no one device alone is probably going to stop the inevitable. Monitoring every part of the coolant system would achieve bugger all if the head cracks of its own accord.
It's more an extra level of protection. Same as running a temp gauge to monitor true coolant temps around the 'stat. This mod comes into its own when the sneaky leaks arise.
They will work exactly the same on either. The coolant system on any type of vehicle works on the assumption of there actually being coolant in it.
