I finally got around to tracing the breather pipe on my fuel tank. It runs from the top of the tank into the right hand chassis rail just behind the radius arms. Also there is an in-line non return valve just after the tank fitting.
When I got it apart the non return valve was blocked solid with what looked like muddy water which I guess got in during one of the wading sessions - where it runs into the chassis is only just above the axle. I finished up throwing the non return valve and re-routing (replacing) the pipe up into the engine bay. No more hissing fuel cap
