Advice and help needed

I have just come back from holiday via an AA recovery truck due to very loud knocking from the engine. The AA guy seems to think its possibly the small end gone. I know very little about mechanics so i don`t know, but it does not sound good at all. What i need help with is what step i take next. The options are either get it repaired or cut my losses and let it go. Its a 1993 2.4 turbo diesel and i`ve already had the head replaced last year and i`m guessing i`m probably gonna need the engine replaced now. I can`t keep throwing money at it but i don`t really wanna let it go either. What do you guys think??

Nope not a new engine, just have it rebuilt, and if youve done head already, once this is done thats you for years.

Get some quotes for fixing it. TonyN will give you an idea, may be worth travelling to him. Ask his opinion anyway, he has 4x4toys website, you can get him there.

A few days or evan a weeks worth of research to find a good trustworthy gararge/mechanic could save you hundreds. If you want to keep it, get it rebiult if its a good'un. If its a bit ropey, have'em repair the small end and out it and get a 3ltr
