  • Upgrade 2.7Petrol to 3.0TD

    Hi folks,

was wondering if any of you have had experience with changing engine from 2.7Petrol to 3.0TD? I have a 3rd Gen Surf from 1999. Is this possible, or are there any issues that I need to pay special attention to?

    cheers

2.7 petrols are quite rare in this country, There has been some discussions on an Amercan web site about converting to diesel, as of course most of the 3rd 4Runners there are petrol.

I hope this helps, you will need to do a search as there is loads of info there.

You'd need get hold of a 3.0TD 3rd gen, then you'll have all parts you need, just a case of swapping things over. Wiring looms, ECU, fuel lines, exhaust, etc are all needed.

            Thanks for the info..

            Hi folks,
thanks for the help. I will look into it.
The reason for not importing a new car is that it is difficult to get an import permit in this country (Malaysia). It is easy to get a new engine.

Why u want to change 2.7L
I have it in my 3rd gene its very good but u need to make sure evrything is in good order to get good fuel economy
eg filter, plugs, quality oil, tire pressures etc unless u tell me that petrol price in u country is very high compared with diesel.

              Thx
