new diff and gearbox questions.

ok, i have a post up on the buchan forum, but thought that most of you guys in the know would be back here.

so my front diff is goosed and jeff's gearbox is goosed.

i have sourced a guy with a breaker not to far away,

so here comes the questions,,,

1,, the breaker is a 3.0 4 runner, so will the gearbox fit jeff's 2.4 surf?

2,, whats the chances of the diff codes matching my surf?

I read that the 3.0 & 2.4 have different diff ratios, so you might get away with changing front and rear, but not just the front.Vin plate will have axle code on.

As for the gearbox, check the transmission code on the vin plate for code as that may help determine if it will fit, unless one of the more knowledgable surfers gets in first.

can someone tell me what bit is related to the gear box the bit that says trans/axle r151f or is it g145 and if some one knows what the rest on the vin plate is all about can they post that it all about is would help me lot and i would not look so dum when i am ordering parts thanks

ok i have been on wiki- p web site and found out that i have a r151f gear box but will the 3ltr 4 runner on 1994 plate fit my surf and will it work ok

R151F is the gearbox type and G145 (I don't think it would be an i) is the axle code. Some where on this site is a thread or two which tells you what G145 actually means.

Yep, Gearbox is R151F. G145 is the diff ratio and type. G-8" 14 = 4.875 ratio and 5 is 4 pinion LSD. 4Runner gearbox may be the same but I'm not sure. I doubt the diffs will be the same though.
