Swing Out Spare Wheel Carrier

Hi,

What is the swing out spare wheel carrier bolted to?

I am customising my cycle carrier to bolt onto the wheel carrier so I can still carry my spare wheel and 2 Adult mountain Bikes.

Is it bolted to a strong rigid pillar or just to the body?

it is bolted to the pillar which has been reinforced to take the wieght of the carrier.I think a few have put the bike carriers on so it should take the wieght ok

I have one of those carriers and had 3 adult bikes on it. When it's locked on the door it's very secure.
