I've just checked and my covers are Red & Black not, as I hoped for, Red and Blue.
This means that it is R12 and because the center wheel is not spinning when the A/C is turned on then it is probably empty.
4 options:-
1. D.I.Y. Retrofit to R134a at £81.00
2. Drop in R12 substitute at £68.00
3. Proper Retrofit by a qualified expert at £90.00 + VAT
4. Feck and leave "as is"!
Decisions, decisions!

For the extra few quid I'd get the proper job done, that's not a bad price by the way, the air con guy will clean out the sustem, pressure test it for leaks, and the put in enough R134 to get the pressure and temp correct.
