  • Aircon Re-gassing etc.

    Hi All,

I just saw an air con regassing kit in Halfords and was wondering would this do my SSRX?

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...tegoryId=35126

It looked pretty straightforward, all you need to find is a main inlet!

Can anyone shed any light on this please!

    Thanks,

    Yer man!

I'm pretty sure one or two of the guys on here have used this to good effect, do a search and check, but I'm pretty sure it's ok.

      Re

I know about the gas difference etc. and the compatibility of the gasses.

But where is the connector to attach the air con kit located?

Is it hard to get to?

Maybe if someone could describe how to do it would be brilliant!

      Thanks,

      Gary

The connectors are on the top of the compressor, and will probably have blue plastic caps on, same colour as the halfords connector.

I used the Halfrauds kit and it works just fine.

              Re

Er, which part is the compressor mate?

Is this under the bonnet or inside the cabin?

              A description would be great!

              Thanks,

              Gary

You might run into a slight technical problem.......

the 2.4's normally run R-12 refridgerant which is now no longer used. also the valves on the 2.4's are a differant size you can get a conversion kit from here http://www.car-air-conditioning-supp...rshop/home.php

Hal£rauds only sell the R-134 stuff...... as I found out to my expense!

So some "can use it" and some "can't?".

How would I know which gas is in my system?

The valves are diferent. Autokool do a drop in kit that is compatible with the old gas. Give thema a call.

the old style gas valves are like whats found on your wheels , the new valve is completely different.

                        these videos will help. http://www.id-usa.com/how_to_videos.asp

I would have thought that a 93 model ( even though its a 2.4) might have had the R134 rather than the R12

Finally found a picture of the air con compressor.

It is fitted in front of the turbo, and above the alternator.

Hope this helps, oh, btw, if you have the red and blue connectors, then you can use the R134 gas.

r12 is in a 1993 surf unless its been chaged.
my advice is not to pi$$ about get the yellow pages and look up aircon specialists or stop a fridge engineer on the road side.
the system is supposed to be vacuumed out first then recharged, leak checked then pressurized. alt. at the mo quick fit are doing an offer.

my bro is a fridge engineer and a member on here ( gwyn ) he will advise better
Surf.gone but not forgottendisco now gone aswell
