  • changing rear springs

gonna attempt to change my rear springs tommorrow, understand i can do this without spring clamps by jacking the body and disconnecting the panhard rods.
could sombody show me a piccy/explain which are the panhard rods ???

You don,t have to use clamps but its much easier if you do.
You only have 1 panard rod,and if you look underneath the truck you will see a thick bar on an angle running wheel to wheel behind the axle .

There are 2 bolts holding it each side you only have to undo the one bolted to the axle on passenger side as well as the lower shock mountings.

Keep an eye on your brake line as you let the axle down as it can get rather tight.

Basicly you might need to disconect anything that prevents the axle being lowered enough to get the new spring in. You can undo the brackets holding the brakeline to the chasis to give you a bit more play.

            Laser_Jock,

Looking at your pics I noticed that you don't seem to have a gap between your rear chassis legs and the floor pan. I do (of about 1 1/2 inches)... does this mean I've been lifted and didn't even know it ?

here are some pics for you

heres a few pics of my 4runner with the rear axle lowered. take the bolt off the brakeline t peice to allow the axle to lower all the way.
may as well remove lower panhard bolt, both lower shock bolts and possibly even anti roll bar side bolts if you need it

prepare yourself with a good selection of jacks, axle stands and bars to get the axle down then up again
