  • Still leaking!

    Hi guys,

Posted not long ago about a leak in my drivers footwell.

Someone suggested sealing the drain plugs, so I did.

    Still leaking though, any ideas?

Your best bet is to sit in the motor while some one runs a hose or power washer over the area you think its coming in from.

Then it will be much easier to sort it.

Is it the same colour as your coolant?
      Are you losing coolant?

My mates did this and the heater core was shagged

It is an adventure to get the little sod out too

It is not coolant (doesn't taste of anything), just water, and is coming from under the carpets so will need to remove them to do that.

Are there any usual places I should check?

had the same problem with an old VW a while back. Tuned out the water was comming in via the door. the inside seal was gone and the water just ran down the window through the door and on to the carpet,
But cos it was comming in right at the side all you could find was a wet carpet but no source.
              worth a look.

Top of carpet not wet. Bottom of foot-rest for left foot is a about as high as it goes.

Sealed the bung plugs in the footwell but still coming in.

Not window or door seal as the water doesn't start there. It starts nearer the left side of the footwell.

                Only happens when it rains.

This will sound strange but I have had this before - windscreen rubber seal!

It runs down the back of the carpets so you have no idea where it is coming from. The damp then creeps up (rising damp!) giving you the impression it's coming in underneath.

                  Worth a look.

                  Rich.

If you have checked these Ignore them:Have you got a sun roof.
1.If so check the gutter drain pipes (not sure if they come down the front on the Surf).
                    2. Dose your Surf face down hill when you park it. If so it could possibly come from the back door seal.
                    3. Check to see if water coming down the inner door trim is hitting the lower plastic door trim. Where the trims join they form a perfect water director to the carpet.
Sorry nothing definate just clutching at straws.

                    Good luck

I'll second the sunroof drains, also check for wiring that has been added later, and see if it goes though the floor or rubber grommets somewhere. There are lots of holes in the bulkhead, these seals often push out, or are loose or had wires run though them.

also check the vent below the windscreen, make sure the drain it not bunged up, or it could find its way inside from there, maybe a good idea to run the hose down it while checking inside
