The fan speed stays the same.
If the system is low on gas the light on the button will flash.
With the engine running, press the button for the A/C and look at the front of the compressor, the centre of the pulley should be spinning, if not then there's no gas.

We still don't know what truck you have, year/reg./engine size?

The fan speed stays teh same as what you have set it to but should blow icy cold air after a few2 seconds easy check is put teh aircon on then lift teh bonnet and feel the air con pipes running of the compressor they should turn real cold quite quikley

          Hi Guys,

I have had the same thing: a/c button lights up but the aircon is not working. The inner hub of the compressor is not turning. If I connect a wire from the + terminal of the battery, then it runs and one side of the pipe sort of gets cold. I took apart the electric bits and checked http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/aircon.htm
Checked the module and everything but I can't find the fault. Checked all the fuses around and replaced the relays.

It happened after I left my car unused for three weeks. Could it really have lost all its gas in that time?

I'll check the pressure tomorrow in an a/c garage. Dashboard is now half out, this does not make the lady-driver happy... :-|

... its really too hot in Fiji to have no a/c!
