  • speedo's and tyre sizes ?

is ther any way to verify what size tyres a surf should be running
i know that tyres and speedo's often come up in the same threads

but is there some way to check say using a serial number or
    something.

today i drove past a speed camera on a dual c/way with a 30mph limit
with the speedo dead on 30 and the following cars were passing me
in plain view of the camera and it never once flashed so i recon the
tyre sizes are wrong. when i bought the vehicle the dealer had put new tyres on because he said they made to much noise on the road and
were a bit thin on tread, so he put on 265/70/15 should they be
31/10.5/15 as the wheels are 8jj.

Sounds like yours is the same as mine. The speedo is about 10% fast with 265/70/15 which are the standard size for a second gen wide body with 8J wheels. Mine shows 40 when it's doing about 36, 30 when its doing about 27 etc.

With 31s which were a factory option, it should be about spot on. The SVA allow the speedo to be out by 10% as long as it reads fast rather than slow as there is no perceived safety issue with people going slower than they think.

The diameter of a 265/70/15 is about 29.6" so a 31 takes the diameter up by over an inch and brings the speedo back into line.

      Cheers
