  • Suspension knocking???

I have a knocking coming from the back end when I go over bumpy or $$$$ roads, it started about 2 weeks and has got worse, it almost sounds like loose exhaust, but have checked that and all seems ok, but I think it might be bushes or shocks, but not sure as am no mechanic!.

    Any ideas

Hi John. we need to know what vehicle you have to give you a definate answer but i would think it could be your anti roll bar bushes or even one of the brackets my of broken
you can get the bush kits from www.milneroffroad.com or www.toyotahilux.com and are easy to replace

check the a/r/bar first and don't forget the drop link arm that's bolted to the chassis either side.you can see them thru the wheel arch

            Richard,
Checked the ARB 'd' brackets and all ok, how do I know if the bushes need replacing?

grab hold of the a/r/bar and try to move it and if it moves then the bushes will need replacing or if you can see if they are split bad

My back end clunks now and again. Not related to speed or anything, and I hadn't been able to find anything... that is until I opened the right hand side pocket in the back...

Now I've packed a rag alongside my tyre inflator it's gone.

                Dont laugh Tony!

Nah, this is definatley something underneath, and getting worse, the back end feels wallowy now, so wandering if it's shocks or broken spring, think I will take it to local garage and get it put on ramps.

Is your spare wheel secured properly?
Is the jack under the rear seat secured and not knocking about?

Check the vertical links on each end of the anti rollbar, one of them my have broken or come loose. That would explain the 'wallowing' you mentioned as the anti roll bar won't be doing much if it's not connected to the chassis.
