  • Air suspension recommendations

    Hi guys

Saw an interesting thread the other day about someone who had put air suspension on the back of their surf.........sounded a good idea and seeing as mine is sitting just a little bit down at the back I thought I might look at doing similar.

Is there any benefit of doing front and back (if you can do both)
    What kits would you recommend
    Where can I get one

    Cheers
    Rob

You need new rear springs. £44 per pair +tax & delivery from here....

There's no coil springs on the front, they are torsion bars and work by a twisting motion.

Torsion bars......ahhh yes, big twisty rods...... no need for coils or bags then.

On the back though, I was looking at fitting water tanks under the rear floor for drinking water and for a shower/hose. I do a lot of sailing and mountain biking and there never seems to be a water supply around when you and your kit are covered in salt water or mud. I thought air springs would let me cope with the extra weight when I have them filled and adjust the springing down when they are empty. Also, might be able to use the compressor to pressurise the shower tank.

As Vince said, replace your springs. Add the airbags later, but it's like peeing into the wind fitting them when your springs are knacked. With regards to the air things, I think Andylala (?) has fitted some on his. Quite good by all accounts. You still want new springs first, though.

Jotto put a link up within the last couple of weeks about the air suspension so it may be worth a search to see what you can find

I have two brand new air springs in me shed, from the US, waiting to go on my truck.

I have a refurbished RRover air tank which I will be fitting under the truck, I made brackets to hold it on last week. I will be refitting my air con compressor and using this to provide on board air (a la Gamedawn). Completed over the next week or so.

This set up, via a manifold (also in me shed) will give me air to reinflate tyres after offroading, air for my springs, and air for a big air HORN (not yet got that).

And if I win the lottery and buy some air lockers, I'll be set.
