  • V8 ?

Does anyone know of a good garage for grafting a V8 into a surf? Will an auto box and transmittion handle 300 break? I've got the dilema, change the head or just put an engine this motor was born to have in it.
If at first etc? Find a BIGGER HAMMER!

hi warren.i take it your on about a rover v8.the initial engine swap is fairly easy to do plenty of room in the engine bay.it really helps to do a body lift as well at least 2" then the v8 sits under the bonnet quite snugly.the only problem is they dont have a bellhousing for the surfs auto box,so you would need to either source a manual box or use the rover auto box and fabricate a mounting plate to fit the toyota transfer case.or in my case ive fitted my own uprated b/w c63 autobox and done away with 4 wheel drive, removing the front axle and transfer case,g/box.i fabricated my own prop shaft and g/box mounts and engine mounts.im running on a four barrel holley, just because it was easier than to wire in the lucas hotwire fuel injection system.youll need a host of other little bits and pieces too,but all in all a very worthy swap,im running around 350bhp my engine is a tvr/rover hybrid,im not the only one on here that has done the swap, tonyN is another brilliant chap whos very helpfull and has done the swap on his hilux pickup,he is currently fitting a 350 chevy to one of his many project vehicles,so it will be well worth a word in his ear too.good luck, heres a link to a host of pics of the v8 conversion on my beasty.http://s86.photobucket.com/albums/k113/vatchman/

Thanks for the info. Nice conversion, I had a look at your pickies. I really want to keep the 4WD option though. I'll let you know what conversion I end up doing.
