Whats 'its the diff' mean? If you rear diff was knackered you'd know about it, it'd be leaking or making crunching noises.

How does that relate to the MOT saying the bearing had excessive play?

mmmmm me too and im an mot tester lol....like tony said the diff doesnt come into the mot and even stevie wonder could tell the diff(erence excuse the pun) between bearing and diff wear!! didnt the toyota garage look into it?
they probably just gazed at your mot paperwork and dived in without looking...hope you didnt pay for the three bearings etc etc
