  • Diff Play

    Hi all

yesterday I fitted a diff breather. Whilst running the pipe to the bulkhead I knocked the inner CV housing on the short side of the diff. It appears to me to have excess play. Probably 3mm at the flange edge. Oil seepage is evident. From the pdf file exploded drawing there appears to be what looks like an oilite bearing on the inner and an adjustable cone bearing in a cap. Is this correct or is there one in the diff body.

If the at worst I have to adjust the cone bearing will the oilite bearing be ok.
    Comments anybody.

My Surf had, what I thought at the time, was a shocking amount of free play on one side of the front diff. I never came to any conclusion other than it is probably normal and something to do with how the ADD works.

The factory service manual says yuo should have 2-3mm of play in axial direction, meaning in-out movement.

        Thanks lads
Looks like another job to be done. Tony would that be an on line manual.?? As you know Haynes only describes what the spanner looks like.
