Exhaust heat shield

The main silencer on my 94 3.0 is irritating me. I've changed the system from the downpipes all the way to the back, and even on full adjustment the large center silencer vibrates on what looks like a large heatshield, sat between the body and exhaust.

My question is this: How important is that heatshield? I am thinking along the lines of removing it, or maybe adjusting it with a lump hammer.

Hello MAte why not get a nice stainless pipe fitted they can make it so it clears the heat shield and it looks superb
