  • Gear box oil

just wondered if anyone could help, not actually a surf question (although i did drive to my mates house in my hilux) we changed the gearbox/t case oils on my mates suzuki 413 today, when we drained the main gearbox the oil was red and looked VERY much like automatic transmission fluid, didn't have the distinctive gear oil smell. (transfer case looked normal) can anyone think of a reason ATF would be in the gearbox, other than error, can it be used to hide a defective box? can't see how though. secondly do you think we should rechange the oil after a week or so?

the oil could be sx75 /90 oil which is another type of gear oil. this is also very red but doesnt have the famous smell of ep80/90 gear oil... its quite common in a lot of newer manual gearboxes .

I used to work for a Land Rover dealership, & one of the manual gearboxes used from about 1983 to 1994 used ATF. So it's not uncommon to use ATF in manual gearboxes. So you probably shouldn't be to concerned.
