  • Axle Alignment

Ever since i fitted Procomp springs to me smurf , The rear axle moved over to the right. Looking on here i found out about the panhard rod extension bracket. So ordered one from Explorer UK and fitted it. Great ! My Panhard Rod is now sitting level with the axle again. BUT ............. I still have the problem of my axle over towards the right. Any ideas ? Would i need to get a Adjustable Rod and if so .....Where the hell can i get one from cause i have searched and searched and no luck. I never really noticed this before until i thought about fitting spacers. Thats when i realised the axle was out of line.

    Help appreciated if anyone knows.

Have you fitted lifted springs? Just changing the shocks should'nt have made a difference to the axel/ body movment.
    You have two options,

1.Remove the rod, cut it in the middle, thread the ends (it's hollow) insert some threaded bar and some adjusting nuts, (I think 'Jakeycakes done his)

    2. hang around 'till I find one on the web for ya!

If you've fitted the explorer lifted springs, and the explorer panhard rod drop bracket, all should be well, and the axle should be in the middle.

Maybe they sod you 4" lift springs and a rod bracket for a 2" lift?

          Seems a bit odd...
          It just does, OK?

Nope . The springs are the 2" ones. The Panhard rod is sitting horizontal now perfectly. I drove around without the bracket on for about two weeks after the lift. Getting the rod back on again was s Pig ! Maybe Ive bent something and now its not lining up right

Looked at the mod cheers 4 that If i can find a rod on fleabay i may give it a try , Wouldnt wanna attempt it on my current one incase i knacked it up , ( A common thing 4 me )

I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be horizontal!!! The drivers side should be higher, but not sure by how much..

ok silly question but is the panhard rod nessasary???????
or is it like the antiroll bars just there to give it assistance when on the road
Surf.gone but not forgottendisco now gone aswell

It stops the axle twisting. So yes, it is necessary!!
And it holds the axle in (almost) the middle of the truck

                          Umm, yeah, but...

                          umm,

                          err,

it does hold it in the middle of the truck...
Otherwise there'd be too much sideways (is that lateral?) play.

It needs to be as horizontal as possible to keep the body and rear axel aligned, especially on lifted coil sprung vehicles. It prevents lateral movement of the axel when going around corners. so if it's not level with the avel, as you go round a bend the axel will shift over, or rather the body would.
The control arms prevent the twisting action, mainly when hard braking.
