Can anyone tell me what sort of job is it to do a 2" body lift, ie does the steering column have to be altered etc.
Any hany hints would be appreciated.
I am a mechanic so can do it, but fore warned is fore armed
If it aint broke dont fix it

I have assissted in doing a bodylift on Jotto's Surf with one of his own kits . We did the ns first , then the os . You need to slacken the pinch bolt on the column in the engine bay prior to lift . Just remember to tighten it before you go for a drive !. Watch the fuel filler neck as this needs to expand a bit , it has a confaluted (?) neck .
Rad needs new brackets (supplied in kit) so the fan still sits in the cowling .
Bodylift can be a job done on own , but 2 peeps are better then 1

also check the hole the steering goes through the bulkhead this may need to be enlarged

(bottom left hab side on mine)

also when you get out remember the ground is further away
        (gone arse over $$$ twice)

Took me about a day to do a 2" lift on my own. No particular difficulties encountered. I bought a steering column extension which I didn't use- (I packed out the steering joint with two washers). I enlarged the hole where the steering column comes through the firewall to allow for the changed angle of the steering column. Also I had to enlarge the hole around the transfer box lever for Low Range use. The Auto select lever required no alterations.

The only different thing I did compared to the 'lift kit' offerings you can buy was use long M12 stainless bolts instead of the M10 size frequently used. I figured the extra strength (nearly 40%) of the M12 might be usefull given the increased height of the body above the chassis! If you do this you'll need to drill out all the Toyota washers and bushes- unless you can source some super thick M12 ones of the right diameter.

Still haven't got round to lowering my rad yet- I just lowered the bottom half of the fan cowling- seems to work!!

not bothered with my rad either just took out the bottom cowl for now.
only thing i have moved is the bumper.
my low range doesnt go in as I havent modded it yet, didnt touch steering etc etc but I only did a 1.5" lift.
took me about a day also on my own.

If you dont fit the drop brackets then you run the risk of getting an airlock in the top of the rad as it ends up higher than the filler cap. Tried and tested!

Easy to fit take a look here www.offroadtoys.org.uk/fittingguides

              @Rick..............Jon's own kits eh?!!
