origins of the rev counter.

hey you guys

Where does the rev counter take its readings from, mine is doing an impession of a windscreen wiper i have cleaned the terminals at the back of the speedo all to no avail so i might start the other end of the problem it is an intermittent thing and only seems to do it when the engine is just on idle.

Not sure but I think there's a pickup on the flywheel.
