Manual hubs

Just bought AVM free-wheeling hubs and been reading about installation.
I have the original unreliable 1st gen AUTO-hubs.(Not ADD) I`ve read I need to fit extra washers and nuts to fit in place of the auto hub-clutch. Is this so? Any 1st gen surf owners who have done this conversion? (Sumo?).

Sumo has just replaced his AVM hubs as I dealt him a set of AISIN ones . He should have the answer for you or Jotto will as he has some on his 2nd Gen.
