ok tryed to change my rear anti roll bar bushes.

the bushes them selves seem to be to small, see attach.
it says on the list" sway bar bushing 18mm id" but the hole in the middle of the old rubber one is a lot bigger.

i managed to sheer the top bolt on the bracket that holds the bush in place.

will it be ok to drive with just the bottom one holding it untill i get it fixed?

and whats the best way of getting the old sway bar bush off? the bottom one is stuck on.

    thanks again scotty

Yes, the new bushes do look too small but they expand to fill the space once you tighten them down. Use a bit of grease on the inside of the bushes before fitting as this helps it move round the bar.

You can try bolting down the bracket with only one bolt but the bracket won't pull in correctly and is likely to bend when the ARB moves. This happened on mine. The broken bolt was a bugger to remove. Eventually I sprayed it all round with WD40, then got a drill onto it and cut in to use a stud extractor. This actually wound the broken part of the bolt in sufficiently that I could use fingers to unwind it through the fixed nut and out the bottom. Can't remember for sure but I think it's an M6 size about an inch long.

Just use a stanley knife or similar to cut off the old bushes on the sway bar then clean up lightly with sandpaper or wire wool. I didn't bother changing mine as they were still in good condition. It was only the main bar fixing bushes that were shagged.

you are right about it bending the bracket, i tightened the bracket back up with the one bolt, went for a drive , and sure enough it is bent.

will need a new bracket now, as it doesnt look as if it will last long without breaking all together.

i assume the truck is ok to drive with just the one bracket on? as there is a fair bit of movement in the anti roll bar.

      anyway thanks again mate.

If that was a rear kit... you actually need the front (US) kit... as the americans like it a bit softer... Those guys don't make bushes for the front... Procomp were going to investigate makign some up, but nothing came of it...

I tried the ProComp ones myself... thats how I found out.

The guys at ProComp didn't know the americans were a little delicate...

Jap and European have thicker anti-roll bars... so it won't fit.

Hi Scotty, only just seen your request. No, my kit came from Milners and was the correct one for the rear.

You can get the bush kits from Milners. Not sure if they do the brackets as well but, if not, your local Toyota dealer can get them easily. Their about £7.50 plus VAT

the poly bushes that i got came from explorer pro comp.

but dont get them because they dont fit.

i ended up buying the correct size ones fron roughtrax. it was around £33 for the 2 anti roll bar bushes ( not poly ones they are rubber) and the 2 brackets, inc postage.

i think millners are cheaper but the service that you get from roughtrax is second to none. i phoned them last wed at 1pm and the suff arrived next day before 12 noon.

                          cheers scotty

Get the rubber. Much better than poly.
