  • Manual to AUTO SWAP !

hello lads, Well it looks like time for Plan B...... The new Milners clutch I fitted only last year, is showing signs of slipping, . so its either spend about £200 on a Toyota clutch or swap the manual box for an auto, which I would prefer anyway. Question is,is an auto box of similar dimensions, ie. prop shafts, transfer box, mountings, etc..?, and more importantly are the floorpans similar
There does not appear to be a lot of room when removing the top bellhousing bolts.

    Anybody done this mod?

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Derek

I think you will find the ecu's are different as the auto box has a couple of sensors that the manual one don't.

      I could be wrong

As the manual ones are in relatively short supply, and can sometimes command a premium price over auto's, perhaps you could consider a swap with someone who has an auto and would prefer a manual, or sell it and buy an auto. It's a lot less hassle than obtaining and changing the box, pedals, looms, ECU, and probably a few other bits too.

would be the devil of a job. even the radiator would need changing. swap your car or sell it and then get an auto
I used to have a surf me!

Thanks for the offer sheeprus, the problem is, I like the Surf I have, I'm just fed up of the manual box, and an auto conversion seems to be a good idea.

What I really need is a wrecked auto Surf which should have all the neccessary bits.... .........Mmmmmmm, something will turn up.

                Cheers

fair play mate I have to say I like mine but I'd have a preference for a manual. The grass is always greener eh?
