  • My steering arms snapped! please help

Hi, as you will see i'm a newbie to this forum and am looking for a little help.
I was backing into my drive last night and the steering arm snapped on my Hilux 4x4 pickup, i think its called the steering arm anyway (its an S shape and is bolted onto the top of the hub with 4 bolts, one end bolts to the track rod end and the other has a ball joint which connects to the steering rod) i've removed the 4 bolts and everything else and the damn thing just will not budge, i've heated it up, belted it with the hammer etc etc and it still wont shift. Does anyone know if there is anything else holding it ? Any help/info will be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Matt

Have you got the cone washers out from under the nuts and normal washers?

There is a special tool that goes inside the knuckle, and pushes the arm out from the steering knuckle, as its f**k tight.

Thankyou very kindly, much appreciated...,, Is that your company advertised below ? if so do you sell the steering arms ? as i would prefer to buy one of someone who's been helpfull rather than hand my money over to the toyota dealers!

Yeah, thats me! I have a second hand one, its still on the axle ATM, but is spare.

But its off a MK1 1982 pickup, so isn't very new. I can get new ones for £120 inc vat but plus postage, or £20 for my old one, but its off a set of axles I brought last year, so can not vouch for its history.

Its unusual for them to break, unless you've got big tyres or lots of suspension lift. What happened?

Thats exactly it ! Its jacked up and has 24" chrome rims on it which look great but are starting to cause me grief. To be honest though it looks as if its a bad bit of metal aswell, the chunk i picked up off the floor that had snapped was'nt a clean break by the looks of it, it looked like it had been on its way out for a long long time.
With the extra stress it has to cope with i think i will be better off going for a new one as i'm counting my lucky stars it only happening on my drive way and not when i'm on the motorway or something.
Can you get hold of a new one fairly quick ? and have you a contact number to order one.
            Cheers
