Don`t hold back jock, tell us the name of the garage you used? Or start a thread headed "Good garage, bad garage" and we can all add our own recommendations or not as the case may be!!

As far as paying goes, use rubber cheques, counterfeit cash or just do a runner but don`t pay for something that isn`t your fault.

Pull them up on everything you can until they get sick of it and just plead for you to go without paying.....LOL

Good luck anyway mate with whatever you choose to do, but let us know how you get on.

In 15 weeks you could have ordered and shipped another truck over from Japan! I honestly believe they are pulling the wool over your eyes 'cos they've f****d up a simple repair job.
First thing tomorrow, get on the phone to trading standards about this garage and tell them the full story and how long you've been waiting. Take no more excuses say you don't care if it is christmas, enough is enough. If you need legal advice, call or go to your local citizens advice centreas it's free.

Now thats what I call good advice!!! Action is whats needed.

Why don`t we organise a Surfer blockcade outside his garage and demand our friend gets his car back for free immediately or we don`t move!! No-one gets in or out till our demands are met.

If that doesn`t work we`ll have to get serious and kidnap all the mechanics`s families and drive past with them on the bonnets of our cars screaming for mercy. Then burn down their homes and blow up their cars. See how they like that!!

Or like BUSHWACKER says.... you could try the CAB first before we consider my idea.... we`ll call mine PLAN B.... but I`m fairly confident it`ll work.

Which plan to choose, which plan to choose?????

I nipped in there on my way home on Friday and was greeted by a few embarassed faces, it seems someone 'ACCIDENTLY' cracked the torque converter (whatever that is) and they've had to replace it with a brand spanking new one. (gleaming it is too!)

I was thinking that at this rate I should have a completely new car by late March.....

They are they said that they are SUPPOSEDLY working on the thing solidly for the next couple of days and I should be expecting a call on Thursday! (probably tell me the rear axle's bent or somthing.)

In the meantime, the car they lent me started squeeling again telling me that the bolt holding on the alternator has snapped for the third time and so apart from sounding like a banshee, the battery is about to go flat. Also, while I was out yesterday, the interior filled with smoke and now the lovely fresh pine smell has been replaced with a burning electrical smell, no signs of a fire though, and I found out this (cold) morning, that the fuel preheater (or whatever it's called) has stopped working. So now it's parked outside my dads while I use his.

Although there have been a few hiccups.

After I told them I'd ben in touch with the trading standards, it was suprising how quickly they fixed the dam thing!

Mind you, when I went to pick it up they told me that the engine shop couldn't fit two pistons... he had to fit four! as so the cost had gone up from £150 to £230 + vat (which I told he I wasn't paying!!)

And when I informed him that what the trading standards people had said about him not being able to split the cost of his services (ie 'cost + vat') he was non too happy when I told him I wouldn't be paying the vat due to the fact that it wasn't quoted at the start.

The only problem I have now is that the 'check engine ' light has been on since making my getaway and I don't think I'll get a very warm reception if I take it back to be sorted.

Still, there's always the Toyota garage up the road!

concerning the Check Engine light, I think you just need to reset it yourself? I might be wrong but I remember reading somewhere that you just need to take off the rubber plug in the middle of your speedo unit and then use a paperclip or similar to hit the little reset button. the light should then go off. the rubber plug should be to the right of the trip-ometer reset stick.

On a 2nd Gen the rubber grommet is to reset the Timing Belt Light me believes. Engine Light will be diagnoised through the electrics and Engine Mangement System.

Does this mean I need to take it somewhere else and fork out EVEN MORE MONEY?

I've spoken to one place about the 500 mile oil and filter change, and they said they wouldn't touch the car because of the potential minefield left by Freeway!

I've got to drive 160mile on Tues and I'm feeling a bit unsure.

I think I can feel a sale coming on........

You can check the fault codes yourself, it been covere on here, jump across the T and E (might be E1, can't remember right now) connection in the diagnostics socket, then turn the ignition on (not start) and then count the flashes of the engine check light.

The light should go out automatically when the fault is fixed, but to clear the memory you need to pull the EFI fuse for at least 30 seconds (longer if its cold)

Nice one Tony, I'll give that a try. I've been told the diagnostics socket is under the bonnet so the quest will start there. ...
