My front wheel alignment needs correcting. Can any one give me tech data or advice. I have a LN130 1993 Surf and have had to replace parts in both front wheel assemblies. Even after having the tracking done I have excessive tyre wear on the inner edge of the front wheels. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Type "wheel alignment" (without quotes) into the search facility at the top. There's loads of threads dealing with this. Your data will, in any case, be the same as a Toyota 4Runner, so any competant tyre fitters should be able to look up the data.

Sadly it appears quite common for so-called tyre and wheel specialist fitting companies nowadays to "fail" in their competence to correctly check and adjust steering geometry...Its a pity someone "lost" the places in the track rods where the correct position was prior to your replacement of parts..You may have to go to a number of places to satify yourself that the geometry is correct. There is a diy device which was made by gunson before their recent takeover called "trakrite" and if your only doing your own car this may be a possibility. It's about £60..and one simply drives onto some metal plates which are guides for correct adjustment... Sorry I have such little faith with the pro's, but there has been such an amount of bad press in the trade papers and on the net, small wonder eh ? BTW, I think there would only be an improvement IF / WHEN steering geometry becomes part of MOT testing, but most people would prolly say "no way jose" or a number or expletives..

Any independant tyre fitters with a laser alignment kit shlud be able to type in Toyata 4Runner and set it up just nice. Mines been OK now for about 14 months.

Friend of mine aligned mine in 10 mins with a real old fashioned setup, no lasers. There I was with my settings on the back of an envelope in my ar$e pocket and thats where they stayed. He hooked some kind of rig onto each rim with a string between the two on his garage floor and then adjusted the tie rod ends to bring things true. Test passed.

That will work for general tracking and mayber camber angle. The laser doodah gives peace of mind in as much as it is a 4 wheel alignment check.
My brother did it before, with the manual tracking guages, but it wasn't quite right.
