    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

we bought our 1st hilux on 11/07/05 and sure enough 6 days in it blew the head . steam everywhere and oil on head - only done 120 miles in it and now were in dispute with garage over whether it was dodgy when we bought it. since finding site it seems this is common . and yes its a 2.4 1993 surf - ok stop laughing you buggars. thing is i wouldnt mind if it had been 6 months down the line but 6 days!!!!!!!! any way now we need 3 opinions to say whether it is likely it was knackered before we took it on and im not sure who to ask. the garage are trying to say we must have driven it for miles like it in order to knacker the head - like wed do that right! - any ideas or opinions greatfully received - its sad cos we like the surf and want to repair it but we need to have an idea of cost !!!

You have 3 months warranty (trading standards) from the date of purchase.
If you have any trouble with the garage then contact trading standards and threaten to take legal action against the garage.

        Who was the dealer then?

Do you think you were sold a pup? Or do you just think it was "one of those things" but you're protected by certain rights?

If its a trader then IMO yes, you are....

If the trader admits without too much arm-bending that it was "one of those things" and reimburses you, then perhaps one can understand.....

I wished I'd found this forum/group before buying mine, still, I went to a cafe and Googled and found to stay away from 2.4's because of the head blowing reasons.

That sucks, but don't give up, next time record the conversation, and use it against them.

Thats bad news, mouthing of at a gal on the phone.

As Tony wisely says start gathering evidence, then think of using

              Small claims court
              Sexual discrimination act

When you say that it has low miles do you have proof of that, might be worth getting it BIMTA checked, not saying that it has been clocked but this might help if it comes to court.
