  • HELP!! I've got a steering problem

Can anyone help?? I took my truck for a day at devils pit and as a result have picked up a bit of a problem with my power steering. When i'm driving my truck the power steeing seem to be fine, however when i'm stationary i can only turn the steering wheel about 90 degrees before it jams up.

    has anyone any ideas???

Mine did similar after off roading, the power steering belt needed tightening, ( I guess it got stretched) it was just a case of loosening the nuts on the adjuster putting a bit more pressure on it and retightening them, they were a pain to get to but it was a simple job otherwise, maybe someone else can give you some pointers to exactly which nuts. It's easy to see if this is the problem just try pulling the belt, it should be pretty tight.

The chalk/clay at Devils Pit glazes the belts causing them to slip. I was advised to wipe the belts with an oily cloth. I was dubious but I am told it deglazes them and stops them slipping.

If you can only turn your steering 90 deg I would think it is something other than the PAS belt slipping. The symptom of a slipping PAS belt is usually juddery steering at low speeds. I would look for chunks of chalk in the steering components i.e. Steering damper. I have seen people tear their CV boots and get chunks of flint in the CVs.
        It's only a hobby!
