  • ABS Question

Going into work this morning, I was trying out the ABS at low speeds and when braking hard at around 10-15 mph easily locked up the o/s front a few times. The surface was quite greasy.
Braking hard from higher speeds was no problem, pulls up straight with no lock up, altough no feel of ABS pulsing either.

As the braking is generally fine I'm not particularly concerned, but just wondered if the ABS only cuts in above a certain speed (I know this is the case on some cars), just wondered if this is correct for the Surf. Anybody any ideas ?

    Hmm ?

I wasn't aware the Surf had anti-lock brakes.
Do all models have this or just certain ones?

    **Edit**
I did a search and found this info for the 1985-1995 Surf:

    Safety Features (standard):

    Side impact door beams
    Tool kit
4 channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
    Collapsible steering column
3 point seat belts front and outboard rear, fronts with height-adjustable anchors, pre-tensioner's, and force limiters
Seat belt warning light for front passenger
Automatic Locking Retractor/Emergency Locking Retractor (ALR/ELR) seatbelts for all outboard seating positions (except drivers)
    ELR seatbelt for drivers seat
    Height-adjustable headrests for all seats
Pinch protection for power windows and available moonroof
Variable intermittent front windshield wipers with mist cycle
    Rear demister
    Power adjustable outside mirrors

Mine does exactly the same as yours , I have had it work sometimes when I go into the forest car park , it's mainly gravel but some parts are just mud , and when I pull up it will click in at times but not always .

3rd gens should have it, It was an option for later 2nd gens.

ABS is for girls! Whats wrong with just pumping the brake? (j/k)

Never have liked ABS anyway , it doesnt feel right all that pulsing under your foot , and as you say pump the pedal if you need to , but with the surf it would be nice to know what was going to happen , when it decides if it's going to work or not .
