Fuel filter Q!

I was under my Surf at the weekend and noticed a little inline filter just over my diesel tank. Not sure if the line was running in or out. Doubt its ever been changed. Was wondering if anyone has changed it and if so can i get it from an ordinary motor factors or is it a Toyota job.

Sure its not a non-return valve for the tank breather? My petrol pick up had one.

Had a look at the EPC for the fuel tank - doesn't show any external line filter on the fuel lines but may be someone fitted one later.

I think Tony's right - it's almost certainly the valve in the breather line. I ditched mine (it was full of mud) and extended the breather into the engine bay - cured the hissing when the fuel tank was taken off.
