can anyone tell me if they have do a engine swap from a 2.4 td auto to rover v8 petrol and if so how much work is needed as i want to keep my auto box any info would be helpfull. thanks .....

And you may have trouble with the flex plate/converter coupling if they are vastly different sizes.
Plus your autobox get lots of different signals from sensors on the 2.4, ie coolent temp, rpm, load, etc. that the Rover won't have.
Personally I'd ditch the lot and fit a late Toy 5 speed and manual t/case from a pickup.
When I did my V8 in the pickup, I didn't have any of the electronic crap thats on the Surfs, so can't advise on that (yet!! doing it to our 89 this summer ) but other mods are Rover or custom rad, engine mounts, and most difficult of all exhausts lay out.
Its a lot of work, not to be taken lightly if you want a reliable car afterwards.
A 1 or 1 1/2" body lift make fitting a lot easier.
