  • Drive shaft end play

Anyone know how much end play is 'normal' at the hub end of the front drive shaft? With the dome cap off the splined shaft can go up/down 1-2mm on mine (wheels on ground). Is this related to the worn bush problem?

The reason you have play here is because you have removed the hub flange. This along with the cone washers and nuts that hold it on centre the axle in the hub.To check for wear in the bushes you need to reinstall the flange and check the end float. This should be a maximum of 1mm.

out of interest - can you replace the bolts that hold the flange on?
I snapped one ages ago, when I overtightened one of the nuts,
but i could see how i could replace it...

Yes you should be able to replace since they are just studs going into the hub. I've sheared one off in the past too when I misread my torque wrench!
