  • Heat shield for turbo.

My 3.0L 1KZ-TE's turbo charger heat shield has a broken stud so when I hit 2000rpm it vibrates. It is nearly physically impossible to get a drill in to drill out the stud so I am kind of stuck as to bolting it back down. Most of my driving is about 2000rpm and it is driving me insane! Is it safe, heat wise, to remove the heat shield? There are some rubber pipes in the near area, but I don't know how much heat would be generated by the turbo, so want to ask you guys, who have a lot of experience with the Surfs.

    Cheers and thanks.
    Chris.

Hi mate, if the shield is still held in place by the remaining bolts then you could just wedge some insulation (fibreglass exhaust tape) to stop it rattling or use exhaust putty.

Haha you made something obscure so obvious! Thanks heaps! I do have some exhaust bandage to dampen down noise that is made from fibreglass so I shall try that. /me ships wavey some aussie beer for his help
