  • Driver's Door Lock Barrell Replacement

    Hi,

I'll be replacing the lock barrell in the driver's door this weekend (after second attempt by scum to gain entry to my Surf - who'd want to rob a 60mph 15-year-old import anyway? ).

From what I'm told and what I read, it should be simple enough. I got both Haynes and Ellery's workshop manuals, and I'll use Codlord's write-up, to help me get the door card off. Then aparrently it's a simple matter of removing a clip, pull out the old barrell, put in the new barrell, fit the clip and bingo. Fingers crossed...

If anyone has any hints/tips/advise, I'd apreciate it.

hi silv i had to put a new door handle on the drivers door as i never knew what to do it took about 30 mins as far as i can remember all you need is a 10mm socket and short extension bar and a screwdriver.once you got the door panel off its a piece of cake you can see the 2 rods coming off of the handle just unclip and use socket to remove the nuts off the handle then change the barrel hope this helps

Yep, just as easy as you said.

Shame the new barrell my uncle gave me doesn't fit...

He ordered it based on my chassis number. Either Toyota got it wrong or my old one wasn't standard. But then how come the same key works in the driver's door lock barrell, tailgate & ignition?

Anyway, I got the old barrell out of the door while I had the door card off. I gave that to the uncle to make sure he gets me the right one next time.

Almost every week there is a news item on the radio about a stolen 4x4 being used in a ram raid. They use them to drive into bank foyers and corner shops that have the free standing ATMs. A few verticle RSJ's inside the wall should put a spectacular stop to that game. Better still a horizontal one at decapitating 4x4 height.
        It's only a hobby!

Why not get a used barrel and re-key. Pretty straightforward.
