I have got new pitman arm and refurb kit for the idler arm coming for the weekend. Is there any special sequence to change these .Are they under stress or will they come out quite easily.

I'll tell after this weekend as I'm doing mine too! While you're under there check the steering damper (big horizontal shock absorber) for action too. I want something to compare mine against (ease of compression & return) as I think mine could be broken?

you may find you need a puller to get the arm apart.

        Very interested in this, too.

Since I got mine last July, it's pulled to the left. I had hoped that replacing the front discs & pads a few weeks ago would go some way to cure that (under the assumption that a sticking left caliper could have been the cause), but it didn't.

Where are you getting your bits? How much? What bits are you getting? What symptoms have driven you to decide to do the job?

I think you can do whatever you have to to get the old bushes out (so long as you don't damage any components/parts you're keeping). I'm guessing I'll be using plain old G-clamps ti fit my bushes when the time comes.

Any chance of a few pics and a little description of the work?

        Good luck with it!

Heres some pics of the steering idler arm.
You will need a puller for the PITMAN ARM as it fits very tight.

The reason i am doing this is after a lot of research and asking alot of you guys some dumb ass questions which you all politely answered. I checked my stearing and found a lot of play in most of the joints and the truck seems to wander all over the road.. Im gonna see if this helps and then change the damper and then take it from there.I have already tightened the wheels bearings which were very loose and also put new tyres on the front. The car already drives better with still some wander, ill let you know what happens when i have done the idler and pitman arms.

I got all the parts from milners for £52.88

They have excellent service i ordered then monday night about midnight and they turned up 9.30 this morning (Weds).

            cheers

That pitman arm can be a bugga to get off as it sits on a tight splined shaft.
Steering idler balljoints fail so ensure its ok.

Where are the steering idler ball joints? In the idler arm shown in the pics?

i wouldnt mind knowing to get a pitman arm puller too?
rare as rocking horse poo it seems,
i tried and failed to remove it with a 3-arm puller
so new pitman arm still sitting in box

Did my jobs today, fitted new idler arm, checked steering damper, fitted new rear shock and fitted panard rod drop down bracket.

                        Panhard rod sits level now!
