Autobox Solenoids

Hello everyone,

After much deliberartion and searching I think I have finally found out what is wrong with my Auto box ('93, 2.4td Surf). I havent run the diagnostic check yet but after following info on the Yotatech website, the symptoms are deffinately pointing to the no 1 and no 2 solenoids.

The problem is that I cant find a schematic of the auto box or any info on changing the solenoids. Also can anyone recomend where I can get the solenoids??

Can't help with the location but I was in an auto box specialists about 6 months ago when they were fixing a similar problem on someone elses Surf. They were buying the solenoid from the local Toyota dealer so I guess that's where they come from.

I was hoping that I wouldnt have to pay main dealer prices, but then again, if it fixes the problem it will still be alot cheaper than a refurb of the box

Can't find to much, they must be in the area of the clutch bands, with a electric or vacuum connection.

Or buy one, and then you'll know what to look for.

The Max Ellery book is the only one that goes in to slush box details, Soloniods 1 & 2 are paired , and no3 is single on the lower valve body on the A434DE box. But not sure what box you have, or if they are all similar.

i have a spare box in the garage, will have a look tomorrow and see what I can see.

Thanks Tony, I'm quite hands on, did the head myself, but wouldnt have a clue what the internals of an automatic gearbox look like. Has anyone else had this type of problem that can help?? my box is either the a430H or the a434F as far as I can make out

Auto Box Type

The plate on the engine bay bulkhead should list what type of transmission you have.
Look below Colour and Trim markings and it should be marked Trans/Axle ==== mine is a A343F (1995 3.0lt SSRX)

Hi,

There's some info on Yotatech if you follow these links but you may well have already seen them though. One of the links of the first page has a load of photos that might help. As far as I know, all the auto gearboxes on the Surfs are of the same family (A340 series) but there's many versions - I would imagine they won't be too different to each other though.
