  • chucking out smoke

hi guys finaly i,ve got the car back on the road after the electrical faults after discopvering that i had bought a 24 volt alternator and fitted it to my 12 volt surf i realised why all my electrics were going haywire and blowing fuses so i removed the offending alternator and had my original one reconditioned i refitted it replaced all the light bulbs and blown fuses and hey presto shes up and running. but there is still a problem somewhere the engine management light remains on the green turbo light doesn,t come on im not even sure the turbo is engaging but i know its working because it spins and whistles as it should the main problem is lack of power in low gears and excessive smoke from the exhaust but not continuously only occaisionally
does any one know what this could be and how i can put it right i dont know anyone with a disgnostic machine every garage i fone says its an import they cant help and mitsubishi want to rob me any ideas would be appreciated thanks

you do not need a diagnostic machine to get the fault codes under the bonnet little gry box open it and in holes e1 and te1 place a pice of wire in then turn on the ignition and count the flashes it may give more than 1 code so it may fash twice then pause then carry on flashing so 1st one is code 2 and so on let it cycle at least twice to be sure sounds like you have a code 12 to me though
email me and let me know
if aint gone pop yet chances are it will

          smoke

Just a thought, when i first bought my lux the turbo waste gate was stuck closed, beleive it or not the tubro was boosting all the time and i hadnt noticed until i looked in my rear view mirror on morning and noticed the smoke, i removed the waste gate(just removed the turbo heat shields and then 2 bolts on the waste gate) and them lubricated the rod which was stuck, hey presto, no more smoke and for some reason which i dont understand the truck moves alot better.

If the wastegate is stuck would the turbo light still come on and off?
