ariel wont come up

OK turned on today huge grinding sound the bump from nearside wing, ariel wont come up electrically, but can pull it up easily with virtually no friction manually, then it wont stay up just falls back into it self. looked at all the searches, but seem to be the opposite problem, ie they go up and stay up, any ideas, or anyone suggest where a replacement can come from ???

looked on there but it all seems to be about ariels that are stuck up, rather than like mine one that just wont go up ........ !! oohherr missus !!!

i'll answer your question mate go here www.milneroffroad.com (prob have to ring em though)and buy a new one for less that £40. The plastic drive thingybob has probably snapped.

is it just the mast you get from milners, cause ive just done what was mentioned on the "aeriel search", motor runs when you turn it on unbolted nut, then pulled ariel all the way out , nothing pushing it up at all when i pulled it, just me manually moving it, no gears or anything on the bottom of the mast, does that mean there still in there ??? do you have to get em out ???if so how do you get em out and then how do you know what way to reinsert the new mast ????

i cant find on the searches anything about when the mast comes out theres nothing attached to it, also me having to manually pull it out, rather than it just popping out does this mean something else is busted ??
any answers appreciated fellas

Take it off and put a BIG old CB whip there instead.

ok update is, got a complete new replacement (whole aeriel, not just mast ,but motor also)from maystar, £39.99, fitted it in about 60 mins, works no problem, but for those others that want just a straight replacement manual telescopic ariel, they also do one complete for £11.99, and now roughtrax are doing a small flexxy rubber job for £14.99 ..............maybe this info will help someone else in the future
