  • CV boot and knocking noise

OK when car was in for its 1st full service since I have owned it I've been told I have a small split in the CV boot (dont know if its inner or outer - seen both for sale from Milners). I dont know how small but probably full of mud now so I would like to sort it. Easy job?
Also I keep noticing a knocking noise if the front suspension rises fast (like mounting a speedhump) it kind of clunks at the car lifts up, lame description i know but a few people have suggested anti-roll bar perhaps? Any ideas on what it is and how to fix appreciated

    Cheers people

I had a similar noise on my old 4Runner turned out to be knackered shockers,
look for the tell tale oily marks and bouncy front.

Knocking could well be the anti roll bar drop link - the bushes go and then the drop link happily rides up and down through the wishbone making a nice clonk as it does so...

aha that sounds about right... bouncy front too.
can I just buy a new drop link thing? I plan to fit some new shocks in the new year some time.

You should be able to get away with just buying new bushes for the drop link. Unless you are unlucky like me and snap it when trying to get the nuts off

Then it's a main dealer for the complete link.

What shocks are you thinking of getting? I'm thinking about replacing mine - but not sure what with. The es9000's seem to be popular on this site - but the american surf forum suggest that bilsteins are better and I have heard that koni raids (twice the price) are supposed to be the mutts nuts.

I fitted Procomp ES9000 all round about a year ago and I'm really pleased with them - they are great offroad and on. Although if you dont need to mount a winch etc then ES3000's will do just fine.

cheers guys n girls for the help, I have the noise if im turning then brake sharply, the front end dives then i get the groaning/creaking noise.
Im 99% sure I have 9000's on the back and 3000's on the front back end it a bit harsh for me and I wont be using a winch so new es3000's seem the way to go, im sure thay are good just the fronts have had it i think.

I'm driving without an anti-roll bar for a while now and its much more lively on the cornering at the front. It tends to oversteer and duck down into the corner. That said I have a 2" bodylift. I ament recommending anyone drive without the bar, just sharing my experience from doing so.
