  • A weird noise...........

Hi I'm looking for some advice from all you more experienced surfers, I have a weird noise that appears to come from the back of my surf when I turn left. It sounds like I'm clipping a kerb but I'm not. This was happening before I raised the suspension so I know it's not that but I can't quite put my finger on it. If it was the front then I would think maybe a bearing but I'm really not sure any advice would be highly appreciated.

Check the rear stabiliser bar mounts on rear axle housing. There may be worn bushes or a broken mount. These mounting brackets are quite thin and can crack sometimes.

Eventually got round to putting my Surf up on the ramp to have a look underneath and guess what, yip you where correct the mounting bracket was halfed in two, any ideas where to get them from in the UK or would I need to go through Toyota?
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction

Have a look at the following...

          http://www.allprooffroad.com/suspension_coilsprings.htm

Upper and lower control arm links, to reduce stress to the axle mounts... sounds like the whole back end is not quite upto scratch. Weak brackets, poor welding... Mind you in Toyota's defence... these Surf's have been going some time and doing some 'real' work.

          Please ignore my ramblings... andyL

About £15 a side for brackets and bushes from yer friendly local Toyota dealer. I did mine last year. One was broken and the other badly bent.
            It's only a hobby!

Thanks Andy, and your correct about the whole back end not being up to scratch on the Surf as most of the complaints from everyone are about the rear, but I would not be without 1 as I love the Surf.

Cheers Phil, do they keep them in stock or did they need to order them in for you?

They ordered them in for me and rang me within three working days to say they had arrived. Roger, Gamedawn posted the part No's for me. A search might turn up the original thread. They are a doddle to do. Must be if a spannerphobe like me can do the job in 20 mins.

Same here, wouldn't drive anything else now. Cept maybe a Pinzgauer, or a Landcruiser 80 (which looks like a surf anyway...)

Looking forward to picking up my 80 Series on Wednesday. 1993 Auto Diesel 4.2 with new radiator, rebuilt Birfields and seals on the front and all the paint in pristine condition - have to get the Leather worked on but it's not too bad and certainly not as bad as I have seen.

                          Cheers
