Try pushing the button with the demister symbol on it.

There was a thread on this subject only a week or two ago. Apparantly control cables/solenoids are near your left foot, just under the dash.

I'm sure a search will turn it up.

I did it for you. Here's the link.

Had this problem a couple of weeks back. If you look up above the foot rest, there is a couple of white nylon sliders. Mine were stuck, but jiggling them about whilst the fans were on elicited air from the window vents and cleared my misted front window.

            Robo,

I had a similar problem when I first got my surf. The solution for me only became apparent when I removed the relevant dash parts to fit a new cd player.

The plastic heater tubing was not connected correctly to the screen vents behind the dash. I assume they were dislodged (its easily done), by a previous owner replacing his stereo. If all else fails check this -it doesn't take long.

                Sniff

                Sniff

Our hippo is going in tomorrow to have her demister looked at - first real frost and bugger all heat aimed at the windscreen

So time for a warranty claim, if I have to leave her at the garage bet I don't get a surf to drive away

My Surf had the same problem when I got it. The buttons you press to select the direction you want the air to go activate solenoids that push and pull a cable rather like that on a push bikes brakes. My cable had a kink in it so I made a little splint for it and it has been fine for over two years. Take the centre part of the dash off to check it out.
