  • DRL conversion.

i want to fit daytime running lights to my gen 3 and wanted to know if the existing sidelights can be converted to side/drl without too much hassle. Failing that does anyone have any recommendations where to legally fit aftermarket ones. The grille looks the obvious place but mine is obscured by my A-bar and also i am not sure how far from the outer edge of the truck they have to be to pass MOT. Any help or ideas much appreciated.
God bless gaffer tape and mastic!

The daytime running lights fitted to modern stuff are really bright in the day and dim out at night so you either need to make them shut off when you put your lights on, or maybe fit a dual filament bulb stop/tail maybe in there and wire it so the brighter one is your day running light and it swaps to the dimmer one for your sidelights.

Thanks for that but I now have it sorted. I lashed out on a set of Phillips daytime 4 lights which fit perfectly in the grille and within legal limits. Really easy to fit, the switching unit even has a built in LED to let you know you have found the right wire on the lighting system. The whole job took about an hour. They are really bright and cut out as soon as you turn your lights on.

This is quite funny, having had over boosted and tuned turbo Volvos and been on those forums in the past there were always a lot of questions about how to turn the running lights OFF!

(its complicated believe me, you cant just take the bulbs out)

Now the modern stuff has those shiny LED jobbies every man and his dog want to fit them on the older cars.

I've been down the volvo route as well and what i didn't like was the running lights meant full head and tail lights (2000 V70). Personal choice but i think drl's make you more visible in bright sunlight and gloomy days as well. Certainly i have noticed not as many dic*heads at side turnings pulling out on me.

It's all personal choice i'm not having a dig it's a bit like when BMW came out with the cats eyes and then a year later you could buy the old style stock sized circular headlamps with them in to fit golfs minis and escorts.

It's like fashion, things come and go and you pick and choose what you like.

I stopped playing with the Volvos when they went FWD, the older ones had the running lights in the sidelights.
