Speedo completly dead and o/d flashes

I steamed the carpets today and upon driving the truck, the o/d light flashes and the speedo is as dead as a dodo

Do i need a new speedo? Ir gearbox sensor??

If speedo, how can i adjust the mileage to get the right mileage..?

Also, the speedo ive found has a sticker on, so no need to have the black gizmo box i have can i simply cut it out?

Check your plugs on the side of the gearbox

Checked all visable plugs (3 one side and 2 the other IIRC)
All pluged in but wiggled all

Still no joy. Ive ordered a new speedo anyway whichll arrive tomorow

Can anyone answer my question with relation to the black box thing?

Sounds like the speedo.
Same symptoms I had, no speedo reading and the o/d light flashing
Got a 2nd hand speedo off eBay with roughly the same mileage and it solved the problem.
The odometer reading can be changed but never got round to it

a new speedo hey.... ?
mine has had the o/d light flashing for 2yrs but very VERY rarely has the speedo dropped (and when it does its only for 1-2 seconds) maybe this will fix it as my auto-elec cant...

on another note however, my add system is playing up and when i disconnect all the vacuum lines then plug them in again the o/d stops flashing for a few minutes...

SPEED SENSOR !!!!
Don't go replacing the speedo just yet!
Get the speed sensor part number from toyota (there are two types), then get one off eBay - about £40. It's a simple affair to remove it from the back of the transfer box, change the cog and bolt it back in.
Symptom of failed sensor include:
Lack of top gear or drops out
Poor gear changing - holding on to gears
O/D light flashing
Speedo reads 0.
You may or may not get all these at the same time and some can be intermittent.
