  • HELP!!!!! with Stereo fit

    Hi all,

I have a 1997 Mk3 Hilux Surf SSR-X Limited. It had a double DINN Panasonic unit inside. I have purchased a Sony CDX-MP70 head unit and have took advantage of Sony's free fitting service. They guy has just been and he managed to get the centre facia off etc. He said there is no way the single DINN unit can fit as once he takes the double DINN unit out the single DINN will have nothing to mount onto so will effectively be loose. He checked to see if any extra casing can be ordered and he said not. Is this true? I know people have had single DINN units fitted in double DINN holes.

Any Help would be appreciated as I'm quite miffed at the moment. Its not as if my double DINN works.

I have a single DIN head unit.
The problem is, as you have a double DIN unit, the mounting bracket for a sinle DIN is not required therefore it is missing.
You may need to get hold of a second hand mount, the one which normally has a plastic tray underneath, as obviously they cannot be bought new.
I would PM either Hilux or Streetluge Chris who may have this part on one of their breakers.

It will attach to the existing side brackets, without using the din cage, also a single din box is available from halfrauds to fill the other portion

I didn't know that. One to remember.
Obviously the Sony guy didn't try hard enough or look hard enough for a cage then.

            Thanks - uiseful info

            Hi all,

I have no idea who it was that came to do the fitting. Some company who Sony contracts out I guess.

Anyhow - I have managed to contact Toyota up the road from me. They said the only way I can fit a single DINN is to buy some brackets and a pocket - not available from Halfords or anywhere like that.

They asked for my frame number and another number from under the bonnet. They have located the bits and apparently I need some brackets - £7 each and a pocket which is also £7. They should arrive on Saturday morning and I think I'll fit it myself if its not too tricky

You need 4 small screws to attach to the side brackets that are there already, if you remove the plastic side covers you will be able to do it no probs.

you can get the audio in from a cd changer into any radio, but controlling the changer is where the problem lies. Cheaper all round to fit something like the jvc head unit and 12 stack changer cheap enough @ £140

But remember you will have import duty and vat on top not to mention carraige. I just checked that site and can beat most of their prices anyway. and by the time the import and vat is on top I would beat them all,
But then thats what I do,, anything to do with in car entertainment and aftermarket add ons.
                          and yes I am smug.

I would like to apologise for the above post which is a blatant plug for my company and the screens, amps, subs, stereos, dvd players, speakers, and componant sets, cruise control, sat nav, towbars, window tinting, alarms, immobilisers, etc that I supply and fit.

                            Regards
