  • key tumbler problem

Greetings - I am the new owner of an old Surf - 1992 SSRG. I am a military chaplain better at theology than auto repair - but I enjoy a challenge.

Two days ago the key would not turn easy in the ignition tumbler. The problem has become worse to the point I spent an hour last night moving the key slightly forward and back until it final caught and turned to start.

I live in Okinawa, which is rather humid this time a year. A friend suggested grafite to losen a tumbler. Does this sound like a good first suggestion or is likely that the whole switch needs to come out and be repaired.

    Thanks and Cheers!

You could try Graphite or a good spraying of WD40 would also do the trick.

Had this on mine a while back, had new key cut and no such problems since. A 14 year old motor with one original key its bound to wear.
