  • Speakers in door cards (mk2)

I had a search but didn't seem to find anything. Has anyone added speakers to the door cards? Had a quick peek behind and looks like there is room.

My surf has some alpines in the front but the sound quality is still shockingly poor. I may put speakers in the sides of the cargo area as well but up front is always better for sound quality. Would the door cars be stiff enough to support speakers by themselves providing they were not too big?

I am trying to explore my options but I didn't find a great deal using the search apart from the fact the tiny dash speakers are an almost lost cause.

Unless you buy really slimline speakers you will need to space them out a bit to clear the window / runner. Easiest way but not very pretty is to use spacer rings made of mdf or plywood.

There are some 6x9s in the rear doors of my truck, as Wishbone says they need to be spaced to the window doesn't clatter into them, mine haven't been spaced.

I'm not sure how much spacing you'd be able to put behind the speaker before it hit the rear seats though.

What's the point in firing sound at the rear seats?
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

No idea, it wouldn't have been my choice of speaker position. Unfortunately removing the speakers would leave a big hole in the doorcards.

Ah crap I forgot about the window. Thought there was loads of room. I was thinking about doing them towards the back of the doors but they would foul the seats with spacers. can they be fit at the front with spacers? I was hoping to get 16.5's in.

Other plans are to dump some direct fit 4" ones in the front and back but need to find out why the back ones are not working. Then if I am still not happy I would add some speakers in the cubby holes but it would mean buying an amplifier.

              Mine needed fairly big spacers.

I like your door cards by the way. I was planning on trimming them in a dark grey leatherette. I did it on my Peugeot which was a pain but it should be easy on this because the door cards are flat.

I was also wondering what power the rear amps are? If I replace them standard speakers would it be too much if I piggybacked another pair off them as well?

Just measure your speakers and use the thinnest spacer you can fit in. From memory mine worked out to about 50mm.

The rear speakers are 2 ohms so a pair of 4 ohm per side in parrallel should be ok.

Thanks for that. I have not bought any yet which is why I asked. I might do the rear speakers first. Not decided if I will mount them in pods on top of the wheel arches or in a box set back against the seat.
